What’s new about inequality in the Middle East and North Africa in 2023?

The 2023 update of the World Inequality Database confirms that income inequality remains very high in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region:

  • The MENA region has one of the world’s smallest bottom share: half of the population earns 9% of the national income.
  • The richest 10% earns almost 57% of the national income in the MENA region compared to 36% in Europe in 2021.
